Set in a science-fiction universe, this space combat simulator combines capital-ship battles with ground and naval engagements and dogfights above planetary surfaces. In Universal Combat, the player can take the role of a marine, a starship commander with a full crew, or a pilot flying a space fighter.

As commander, the player controls the ship and its systems, including weapons and navigation, and can direct the crew and support craft. Marines can fight on planets and alongside crew members. The game offers solo and multiplayer modes, with both first- and third-person perspectives.
