A turn-based historical strategy game about the US counterinsurgency campaign in Vietnam in 1965. As a US Army commander, the player must secure the Ia Drang valley near the Cambodian border. Viet Cong insurgents infiltrate along the Ho Chi Minh trail, lay mines and ambush troops, while the North Vietnamese Army supports the insurgency and prepares offensives.
The campaign calls for coordinating infantry, mechanized units, special forces, artillery and air support, as well as training local ARVN forces. Winning the support of local residents provides intelligence, while public opinion at home affects political support for the war. The commander rises through the ranks, from junior lieutenant to general.
