Best Warlock (Wyll) Build in Baldur's Gate 3
Wyll Ravenheart is one of the companions in Baldur's Gate 3 that you meet throughout the main storyline. A warlock, an aristocrat, and just a very pleasant personality, with whom it's nice to interact and fight alongside. But there are nuances to everything, so in this guide, we will tell you how to properly assemble a warlock.

How to play as a Warlock
A warlock can be incredibly useful both in melee and at range. He can deal massive damage up close, and then augment it with magic from a distance. Therefore, we wear medium armor, take a Finesse weapon in hand — and into battle. Again, it's very important to distribute the attribute points correctly. We cast everything from Charisma, but we also recommend not forgetting about Dexterity.
Recommended attributes are indicated in the screenshot above.
Which subclass, cantrips, and spells to choose at level 1
Eldritch Blast and Chill Touch are the basics for a warlock that will always come in handy and save your life more than once.
For the subclass, we choose The Great Old One, at least because with a good setup, all enemies will ironically scatter in Terror. Compared to other subclasses, this is currently the most beneficial — and will be very useful later on as well.
Main spells: Armor of Agathys and Arms of Hadar. This is another classic for any warlock that will save your life more than once.
Which Eldritch Invocations and Spell to Choose at Level 2
The obvious choice: Dissonant Whispers — incredibly useful for the start of the game.
Devil's Sight and Agonizing Blast — are what we settle on. The first will be very useful since Wyll is a human who initially has no ability to see in the dark (including magical darkness). However, if you are playing another race (such as a high elf), it will also be useful, as it increases the range from 12 meters to 24. The second allows you to effectively knock enemies off cliffs, and not only that.
How to Choose a Pact Boon and Spell at Level 3
The only pact boon that suits us is Pact of the Blade. Remember Commander Zhalk's flaming sword from the very beginning of the game when you're running from the nautiloid? Now you can use it. Just remember to make the pact every time after you've taken a long rest.
For the spell, we take Shatter, which is one of the main spells in the pool for any casting class — it deals a lot of damage.
Which Spells, Feat, and Cantrip to Choose at Level 4
Friends is useful not so much in combat as in social interaction, as it gives an advantage on dice rolls in dialogue.
Note: We strongly advise against using the ability on companions, as it may spoil the relationship with them.
For the spell, we definitely take Misty Step. It will make the hero more mobile, after all, teleportation is a very necessary thing.
For the feat, we choose Tough, as additional HP are very important for a good warlock.
How to Choose an Eldritch Invocation and Spell at Level 5
Hunger of Hadar — a very good spell in cases where there are a lot of enemies in front of you — in essence, it can not just save your life in a difficult situation, but also your entire squad. Therefore, we settle on this one.
Out of all the options, the best choice will be Beastly Energy, because False Life is rarely superfluous — a couple of temporary HP can really help in critical situations.
We replace Dissonant Whispers with Counterspell — the most important weapon of any spellcaster.
Which Spell to Choose at Level 6
Here we settle on Fear, so you don't have to rely on the subclass ability. After all, it would be nice to be able to apply it even before you make your first kill in battle.
How to Choose an Eldritch Invocation and Spell at Level 7
Out of all available spells, Evard's Black Tentacles will be the best option, as it gives you not just damage, but also good control.
The next eldritch invocation is Book of Ancient Secrets, which will give you three additional spells.
How to choose a spell and a feat at level 8
«Banishment»— a really cool thing about pure control. Works on bosses too, tested.
As a feat, we choose «Vigilant». With it, you don't have to worry about enemies catching you off guard. Besides, it also allows you to almost always take the first turn in every battle.
How to choose an otherworldly invocation and a spell at level 9
«Chaos Minions» will summon additional support in the form of an elemental during battle, and not all wizards can do that, by the way.
«Telekinesis» — an extremely powerful spell that will not only be useful in battle but will likely become a lifesaver during the game.
How to choose a spell and a cantrip at level 10
There are no particularly useful cantrips left for you, but if to assume, it's best to take «Warding Bond»: maybe one day it can save you from a lot of damage — or at least reduce it.
Here we definitely choose «Dimension Door». It will add mobility to you along with the previous choice of «Misty Step».
How to choose a mystic arcanum and a spell at level 10
«Flesh to Stone» — one of the most useful things you can have in your arsenal. If you're also lucky with the dice at the right moment, with this arcanum you'll become the most formidable opponent in principle, as not everyone can start turning the main villain into stone with just one spell.
An unconventional but effective choice — Remove Curse.
It will also come in handy during the story when you undergo the trials of Balduran.
How to choose a feat, an otherworldly invocation, and a spell at level 12
Remembering the not-so-obvious need for control, the last spell we choose is Dominate Person.
Lastly, of course, we increase the characteristics, raising Charisma to 18, to deal even more damage. The next otherworldly invocation, by the way, works perfectly with your Charisma modifier, so it's better not to ignore this aspect.
So, Life Drinker — a passive ability that will add extra damage depending on the modifier of your main characteristic. A very pleasant passive bonus, especially for the final battle.
