SnowRunner

Continuation of the off-road driving simulator Spintires: MudRunner. You can expect realistic driving mechanics, well-developed gameplay, as well as many innovations and improvements. The player has access to more than 40 models of off-road vehicles, both Russian and licensed Western ones — from Ford, Chevrolet, and Freightliner.

The action of Snowrunner takes place on large maps, united by a common style in the region: raw Michigan in late autumn, swampy Taymyr in early summer, and ice and snow-covered Alaska in the middle of winter. Each map is a freely explorable open world, with its unique feature — a city, a port, a quarry, swamps, etc.

The design does not limit movement routes, except for the conditions of the landscape, but not every vehicle can drive over a tumbleweed, conquer a hill, or go upstream. There are almost no paved roads on the maps, and if they do appear, they are often in a destroyed or icy state.

The main movement occurs on dirt roads, whose condition varies from dry to wet and softened by rain; from quite solid to turned into a swamp. Mountains and forests reduce the width of the roads, limiting maneuverability. All of this affects the gameplay, forcing players to actively explore the game world and try different routes, estimating where the vehicle can pass and where to look for a detour.

In Snowrunner, there is a well-thought-out physics model. The type of road surface is taken into account, the type of tires used, the depth of tire penetration into the surface, characteristics of the vehicle, and special capabilities. For example, you can engage low gear, transfer torque to all wheels through all-wheel drive, and in advanced vehicles, lock the differential. Additionally, all vehicles are equipped with an electric winch, allowing them to pull the vehicle or object in the desired direction when hooked to a sturdy object.

All together allows a fully loaded truck to overcome complete impassability. Movement is the main mechanic of the game, as regularly getting bogged down in mud or swamps causes the vehicle to get stuck, forcing the player to go through a mini-game to rescue it from captivity. Or the vehicle may get completely stuck, and you will have to pull it out with another vehicle.

The damage model of vehicle components takes into account the damage received while driving or due to the player's incorrect actions, which reduces performance and requires repairs. The movement is also influenced by the center of gravity and center of mass, ground clearance, axle sizes, and the vehicle's support points.

Most activities are reduced to completing one-time quests in the format of "deliver the needed item," but there are also endless "competitions" — timed activities. Each map contains various challenges, allowing players to earn money, increase their reputation, and improve the state of the game world.

With an increase in reputation, new vehicles and upgrades become available, as well as trailers and attachments, types of missions, and regions. Money can be spent on purchasing necessary or missing vehicles and equipment. In the spirit of RPG, the player starts with zero reputation and no money in a "beaten" pickup truck, but over time, they acquire the first, second, and unlock much more high-quality equipment. They can also find new equipment or upgrades for it by exploring the game world.

Snowrunner offers single-player or cooperative gameplay, and the game can be completed from start to finish regardless of the choices made, with the ability to switch between modes on the fly.

Progress on tasks is only counted for the host, but guests earn reputation and money, as well as unlock upgrades and new equipment. The vehicle fleet is shared, and players can switch to any equipment left on the map by any player. Tasks can be completed either separately or together, but only based on the level of the session organizer.
