Voidtrain Witch Islands Puzzles: How to Solve Every Riddle

In Voidtrain, you play as a traveler journeying through the Void on a magical train. As you progress, you’ll build and upgrade your train, race through mysterious realms between worlds, explore floating islands, gather resources, craft weapons, and uncover the secrets of the dimension. Like many games in this genre, Voidtrain features special puzzles that offer generous rewards for solving them. In this guide, we’ll cover all types of island puzzles and share tips on how to solve them.

To unlock the ability to solve witch puzzles, you’ll need to open a special winch during one of the story quests and craft throwable rings for it.

To reach a special island, keep an eye out during your travels through the Void. Sometimes you’ll spot a swarm of fireflies heading toward the horizon. As soon as you notice a cluster of flying creatures, hit the brakes and get your rings ready.

Use the rings to latch onto rocks, then pull yourself toward them using the winch. Once you reach the heart of the island, you’ll encounter one of three types of witch puzzles.

This puzzle works like this: you’ll find several floating stone pillars on the island, with the ghost Roflimo nearby. To solve it, interact with the ghost and listen closely to the sounds it makes. Each sound matches a specific symbol on a pillar—from a laughing witch to drum beats.

To change a symbol on a pillar, explore the area to find special buttons, then shoot the correct ones. Once you’ve set the right combination, the sphere will open.

The second puzzle type involves special rotating pylons. This one is much easier, since you only need to find three symbols nearby and match them to the mechanism.

Usually, the symbols are found on the lower parts of rocks or on trees. Rotate all the pylons to match the symbols you discovered and claim your reward from the sphere.

The last type of puzzle involves special lasers. Near the central sphere, you’ll find unique laser totems. You can interact with these to aim the beam at other structures. The goal is to activate all of the central receivers.

Each laser puzzle features at least a few starting totems that are active by default. You need to connect each laser color to its matching totem:

Once you solve the puzzle, the large totem behind the sphere will rise up with an ominous sound, then crash back down, revealing the contents of the sphere.

For each puzzle you solve, you’ll receive a special “Strange Chest” with a rune on its lid. You can open it at the depot on a special altar located behind the bandit outpost. Inside, you might find useful materials like scrap metal, seeds, chemicals, and more.
