Heartopia is a free-to-play multiplayer life simulator set in a cozy, small town. It’s a relaxing game where you can water your garden or pick out new outfits for your avatar. In this guide, we’ll explain how to play with friends in multiplayer. You’ll learn where to find your UID, how to unlock the Friendship Journal, and whether it’s possible to create your own town.
How to Unlock the Friendship Journal
First, you need to unlock the Friendship Journal. It becomes available when you reach level four in the D.G. Members's Guild. To do this, complete quests. Talk to the mayor, Atara, to unlock Resident Requests from townsfolk. Leveling up is easy, even at a relaxed pace, it shouldn’t take more than three hours to reach the required grade.
To unlock the Friendship Journal, follow these steps:
- Reach level four in the guild.
- Open your wristwatch in the top right corner or press the TAB key.
- Click the star icon for the D.G. Members's Guild.
- In the bottom right, click the orange Upgrade button.
The Friendship Journal icon is in the second-to-last bottom row, right in the center. This section shows all your friends. Here you can send letters, postcards, and invitations, as well as add or remove friends.
How to Find Your UID
Your UID (User Identifier) is a unique code made up of Latin letters and numbers. It’s assigned to every player when they create a character, and it’s linked to your account, you can’t change it.
To find your UID, follow these steps:
- Open your wristwatch.
- Click the avatar icon of your character in the top left corner next to the current time.
- Look at the window below your character’s rectangular photo.
- To copy your personal code, click the round icon that looks like stacked papers with a folded corner.
- Your identification code will look like this: UID: 123user.
How to Add a Friend
Ask your friend to follow the steps from the previous section, or just send them the link to this guide. Once you have your teammate’s UID, do the following:
- Open the main menu on your wristwatch.
- Go to the Friendship Journal.
- In the main section (Friendship Notebook), find the blue magnifying glass in the bottom left corner.
- A friend search window (Search D.G. Member) will appear.
- Enter your friend’s UID in the Enter D.G. Member UID field.
- To paste a code from your clipboard, click the gray tablet icon.
- Make sure you enter the UID with the correct capitalization and no extra spaces.
- Click the Search button, or Cancel if you change your mind.
- A user card for the UID you entered will appear.
- Click the blue icon with a person and plus sign in the top right corner.
- The Friend Request panel will open.
- Under “To D.G. Member” where it says "Let's be friends!", you can write useful info like your server, town, or UID.
- Click the yellow button with the pink star.
- Sending a friend request costs one Wishing Star.
- If you did everything right, a notification saying Friend request sent will pop up at the top of the screen.
You can earn Wishing Stars as rewards for completing residents’ requests. You can send a friend request to anyone in your town, just walk up to them and click the icon above their head. You can also open the map, click their avatar, and use the context menu.
How to Accept a Friend Request
All important game and friend notifications arrive in your mailbox. To accept an invitation, follow these steps:
- Open your wristwatch.
- Scroll all the way down.
- Open the Mailbox in the bottom left corner.
- If you have mail, there will be a “New Application” label above the envelope icon.
- In the top left, there’s a person with a plus sign (Friend Request) icon. If someone invited you, there will be a red dot next to it.
- You’ll see a list of all friend requests.
- Open a request and click the blue Accept button.
Now you can visit your friend’s town or invite them to yours. You can also exchange messages, postcards, and gifts.
How to Create Your Own Town
The game lets you create your own private town for up to 12 people, so you can play only with your friends. Here’s what you need to do:
- Open the main game menu.
- Click the town icon to the right of the Start button.
- Select My Town.
- Click Create Town.
- In the Town Password window, enter a password. Don’t choose something too simple (like 12345) or too complicated (like S3c21FztZ). The password should be easy for you and your friends to remember, for example: OnlyFriends12.
- In the Create Duration field, select how many hours you want to reserve the town for.
- Click Create And Proceed.
Now that you have your own town, you’ll need to find out its number to share with your friends. Open the map and look for the code in the top left corner. Private servers require Moonlight Crystals and Diamond Hearts as payment.
How to Join a Private Town
If you’ve created a town and want to invite a teammate, send them the town code. To avoid confusion, copy the link to this section in the Table of Contents and send it to your friend.
To join a private town, follow these steps:
- Get the private town code and password from your friend.
- Go to the main game menu.
- Click the town icon to the right of the Start button.
- Select Friend’s Town.
- Enter the town code in the "Please enter Town ID" field.
- Click Search.
- When the town appears, click it and enter the password.
Problems, Errors, and Solutions
- Entered friend’s UID, but got an error. Double-check that you typed every character correctly. Ask your friend to send a screenshot of their code.
- Entered friend’s UID, but can’t find them. Make sure you and your friend are on the same regional server. If you’re on EU and your friend is on US, you won’t see each other.
- Can’t join friend’s town / Can’t invite friend to my town. Every town has a 12-person limit. Make sure there’s enough room, or find a different one.
- Can’t connect to private town. Check that you entered the room code and password correctly.
- Can’t find the town. Make sure the town was created on your regional server.
