Gothic 1 Remake: All Map Locations and How to Get Them

Vladyslav Shamshurov

In Gothic 1 Remake, you do not receive a map automatically at the start of the game. You have to find every map yourself by buying them from cartographers, receiving them from story characters, or discovering them in locations. In this guide, we explain where to find and how to get all maps in Gothic 1 Remake, which ones are needed for the walkthrough, and how to unlock the Map Collector achievement.

Maps are especially important in the remake because of the game's overall structure: there is no familiar minimap, and many quests describe objectives through landmarks, roads, bridges, mines, and camps. Because of that, even the basic map of the Colony makes the walkthrough much easier.

There are 12 maps in total. However, some of them are not full maps of new locations, but markers or special maps tied to story quests. If you are simply playing through the game, it is enough to buy the map of the Colony and the maps of the camps you need. If you want to unlock the Map Collector achievement, you will need to obtain all of them.

Where to Find the Map of the Colony

Graham
Graham

This is the most useful map early in the game, and it shows the entire world. To buy it, head to the Old Camp. There are two main options:

  • Graham is the cartographer located near the northern gate of the Old Camp. After entering the camp, turn right and look for him near the diggers' huts or by the cauldron.
  • Dexter is a merchant at the Old Camp marketplace. To reach him from the northern gate, go deeper into the outer ring, closer to the southern part of the camp and the merchant stalls.

It is usually better to buy the map from Dexter because he may sell it for less. The price depends on difficulty, reputation, and trading conditions, so it may vary between playthroughs.

You should get the map of the Colony as early as possible, especially on your first playthrough. It helps you find the Old Camp, New Camp, and Swamp Camp, and gives you a general idea of where the main roads, rivers, bridges, mines, and dangerous passages are located. If you are short on ore, buy this map first, and pick up the individual camp maps later.

Where to Find the Map of the Old Camp

Map of the Old Camp
Map of the Old Camp

The map of the Old Camp shows the settlement's layout: the outer ring, the castle, huts, passages, and main areas. It is not required because the Old Camp is fairly compact, but it is useful early on while you are still learning your way around.

The map is sold by the same Graham in the Old Camp. There is also an alternative option: you can wait until the end of Chapter 1 and receive it from the merchant for free through Diego's task.

Buying the Old Camp map right away is only worth it if you want to complete the collection as early as possible or have trouble remembering where NPCs are. For most players, it is less important than the map of the Colony: the Old Camp is easy to memorize, and the main merchants, teachers, and quest characters are located close to each other.

Where to Find the Map of the New Camp

The easiest way to reach the New Camp is to ask Mordrag to guide the hero there. The merchant is usually found near the southern entrance to the castle in the Old Camp. Choose the appropriate dialogue option, and he will escort the protagonist. Along the way, Mordrag will fight aggressive creatures, and you will still receive experience for the enemies he kills.

The map of the New Camp is sold by the Water Mage Cronos. To reach him, start at the camp entrance, move past the rice fields, then climb the slope and go through the second gate. After that, cross the bridge and keep moving forward until the tavern on the water appears on your right.

The cave entrance is directly opposite the tavern. Inside, go down to the lowest level and find Cronos.

The New Camp is more complex than the Old Camp: it has rice fields, a tavern, a large residential cave, several levels, a mine, and the Water Mages' area. Because of that, the map is genuinely useful. Without it, it is easy to mix up the levels or spend a long time looking for the right character.

How to Get the Map of the Swamp Camp

Baal Parvez
Baal Parvez

The map is sold by Baal Cadar, but he will not trade with you right away. First, you need to impress him and earn the attention of the gurus. To reach the Swamp Camp from the Old Camp, find Baal Parvez in the southern part of the outer ring, near the marketplace. Most often, he sits by the campfire in the center of this area, but he may also walk near the nearby shacks. Talk to him and choose the line "All right, take me to your camp." After that, Parvez will escort the hero to the Brotherhood's settlement and help deal with enemies encountered on the road.

Once you reach the Swamp Camp, you need to get a Sleep spell scroll. There are two ways to do this:

  • Complete the A Sample of Swampweed side quest in the New Camp.
  • Earn the support of Baal Orun, one of the Swamp Camp gurus. To do this, you will need to complete the Replacement for Gorrim and Gathering Swampweed tasks.

Once you have the scroll, go to Baal Cadar. To find him quickly, stand with your back to the local forge and move forward across the bridge, then turn right. Approach Baal Cadar and use the Sleep scroll on one of the novices near him. After this demonstration of magic, Cadar will speak to the hero and unlock trading. You can now buy the map of the Swamp Camp from him.

The Swamp Camp is difficult to explore without a map because of its wooden walkways, paths over water, and areas that look very similar to each other. At first, it is better not to leave the safe paths or explore the swamp at night: dangerous creatures can be found near the camp.

How to Get the Old Mine Maps From Graham and Cor Kalom

These are two related maps that can be obtained in different ways. You need both for the achievement.

Old Mine Map From Graham

Graham's location
Graham's location

After starting Diego's Test of Faith quest, talk to Graham in the Old Camp. He will offer you a map showing the road to the mine. You can buy it, but during the dialogue you can also pressure the cartographer and get it for free.

Old Mine Map From Cor Kalom

Cor Kalom's location
Cor Kalom's location

To get this map, you need to progress through the Swamp Camp storyline until the quest related to minecrawlers and the Old Mine. During the conversation with Cor Kalom, ask him for directions to the mine. He should give you a separate map.

Important: at the moment, obtaining this map is affected by a bug. The problem is that if you previously received the map from Graham, the game will not count Cor Kalom's map, and you will not be able to unlock the achievement. The current working order is as follows: first, talk to Diego about Test of Faith and learn that you can get the map from Graham. However, do not take the map from him yet, and do not go exploring the Old Mine on your own in advance. After that, go to the Swamp Camp, join the Brotherhood, and progress through the story until Cor Kalom gives you his map. Only then should you return to Graham and get his version of the map. In this order, both maps should count correctly.

If you do not want to adjust your playthrough around the achievement and prefer to play freely, the remaining option is to install a separate mod.

For safety, make a separate save before talking to Diego and another one before receiving the map from Cor Kalom. If the game does not count the item, you will be able to replay a short section instead of starting the walkthrough over.

Route to the Cliff Diagram

This map appears during the storyline involving the search for the first Unitor. Nyras gives it to you during the quest, so you cannot miss the Route to the Cliff Diagram.

Map With the Beacon Marked

This map is needed later to reach the Misty Tower. Diego gives it to you in Chapter 3, so the item cannot be missed. After receiving the map, do not rush straight ahead: the Misty Tower area is more dangerous than the starting routes, so prepare healing items in advance, upgrade your weapon, and make a manual save.

Unitor Location Diagram

This map marks the locations where the Unitors can be found. It is also given as part of the story, so you cannot miss it. The Unitor Location Diagram helps you plan the order in which you visit the required points. Before going after each Unitor, it is useful to free up inventory space, buy food and potions, and save the game.

Drawing of Orc Territory

This is another story map that gives you an idea of the orc lands, an area that is either incomplete or shown only very roughly on the regular map of the Colony at first.

The Orc City Map can be found in the orc chieftain's cave. It is lying to the right of him on a stone table.

The last important map is found in the Temple of the Sleeper. This is a late-game story location that you will reach closer to the finale. Once you are inside the Temple of the Sleeper, carefully search the first rooms. The sketch you need is near the beginning of the temple, in the room with skeletons, under the statue.
