Gothic 1 Remake

I probably played through the old Gothic five times. For me, it's a childhood game, with all its flaws, bugs, and clunky animations. So I approached the remake with both hope and apprehension: how could they ruin it?

I'll put it this way: they didn't ruin it. But I wouldn't call it perfect either.

The first thing that pleased me was that the world felt familiar from the very first minutes. The same colony, the same camp by the stream, the same NPC faces. Diego speaks with the same voice (special thanks for that), and when he sends you out to get junk again, you feel right at home. The developers didn't turn Gothic into a Disneyland; they didn't soften the characters. They're still just as prickly and mischievous, but with their own charm.

They didn't break what worked, but simply brought the graphics and controls up to modern standards.

The game still doesn't hold your hand; it forces you to think and sweat in every battle.

The perfect balance between nostalgia and comfort.

Definitely a must-have for all fans of classic RPGs.

Но по факту ты можешь этого и не делать, а просто пробежать через темноту с факелом, если уже знаешь дорогу. Но ты хочешь это делать, потому что это приятно и сильно влияет на погружение. В этом особенность Готики: она не заставляет тебя вживаться в роль, но предоставляет для этого все условия.

I'm still playing the game on Xbox Series X. This is my first time playing it; I've never played the original Gothic games before, and I'm not a fan or a diehard fanatic. Gothic 1 Remake is, overall, a good product, significantly improved on all fronts. I had one major complaint about the developers: the lack of 60 FPS and performance modes at launch on older Xbox consoles and PS5 (it's slightly better now, and the FPS stays around 50 with the "unlocked" performance mode. Overall, an 8/10 is the ceiling for this game, and an excellent result, in my opinion).
