A sequel to the cult action game from Hideo Kojima, which once again intertwines philosophy, science fiction, and an unconventional approach to gameplay. The action takes place in the near future in the fictional city of Redrock, 11 months after the founding of the United Cities of America. The protagonist, Sam Porter Bridges, a former courier, is back in business. He works for the Drawbridge organization, whose task is to restore connections between isolated communities across the continent. The world is still torn apart by the consequences of catastrophic events, and nature and supernatural forces still pose a deadly threat.
The player will not only have to cross dangerous territories again and overcome natural and man-made anomalies, but also face a new threat - intelligent machines that have lost control, and a mysterious group in red robes.
The gameplay is built on the same foundations as the first part, but has been significantly developed. The player can move not only on land, but also on water, thanks to new vehicles, such as the DHV Magellan, which can dive into tar ponds. Battles have become more dynamic, with new ways to interact with the environment and enemies.
Asynchronous multiplayer returns: the actions of some players affect the experience of others through objects, buildings, and resources left in the world. Exploration of the world includes regions outside the United States, including Mexico and Australia, which expands the geography and variety of environments.
The cast includes returning Norman Reedus (Sam), Léa Seydoux (Fragile), Troy Baker (Higgs), and new characters played by Elle Fanning, Shioli Kutsuna, Luca Marinelli. Directors George Miller and Fatih Akin also appear as playable characters, and Hartman returns as Nicolas Winding Refn.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a thoroughly average game. Almost every element comes with a caveat. It’s definitely an acquired taste — but not for the reasons Hideo Kojima would like to believe.
