The most complete edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, including all expansions and add-ons The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine and The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone, as well as numerous graphical improvements. Owners of the original game on consoles and PC received the Complete Edition as a free update. The upgrade is available whether or not you own the add-ons, but your account must have the original game.
The final chapter of Geralt’s adventures begins a short time after the ending of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. Nilfgaard has successfully conquered Temeria and plans to bring the rest of the North under its control. Meanwhile, the famous witcher Geralt and his wise mentor Vesemir pick up the trail of the missing sorceress Yennefer, the White Wolf’s longtime love. Get ready for a game world full of adventure, a brilliant story, an excellent combat system, stunning graphics, nonlinearity, multiple endings, and the cozy atmosphere of Slavic medieval fantasy.
Complete Edition features:
- A Photo Mode available at any time. When setting up a shot, you can choose from four menus: “Camera angle,” “Depth of field,” “Effects,” and “Overlay,” each with a range of options;
- An alternative camera position—slightly farther from the character’s back, with greater sensitivity when moving the stick or mouse. You can now see every action performed by the character and the models around them. Settings let you choose your preferred camera position when walking, in combat, or on horseback;
- The map is now more accurate and detailed, with unnecessary question marks and boat icons removed. You can turn off the filter in the settings, along with the display of the mini-map and/or the list of current objectives;
- Quick access to all witcher signs, gathered in a new menu that opens with a dedicated button;
- Geralt’s walking speed now depends on how far you tilt the stick (gamepads only), and fall damage is calculated based on the height of the fall. Running outside of combat no longer uses stamina;
- You can pause cutscenes and videos at any time, as all pre-rendered sequences have been replaced with in-engine scenes;
- Adjustable font size for subtitles, the interface, dialogue choices, and other text elements;
- Fixed errors and inaccuracies in the Russian translation, as well as character dialogue playing too fast or too slowly compared to their lip movements;
- Cross-platform saves between PC and consoles via CD Projekt’s cloud service (account required);
- A new quest, “In the Eternal Fire’s Shadow,” with several endings, inspired by the Netflix series. Rewards include blueprints for Geralt’s swords and armor from Seasons 1 and 2, Renfri’s brooch, and a “Netflix series” version of the witcher medallion;
- the alternative Nilfgaardian leather armor for Geralt, the outfit of the bard ally Dandelion, and some other characters from Season 1 have also been carried over;
- the gameplay rebalancing changed most perks, abilities, Signs, potions, and some weapons and armor to make them more realistic. An invincible build is now impossible, and “Gourmet” can no longer be used for healing. Skills now have a cooldown after use, so you can’t spam them endlessly. On the other hand, the early game has become significantly easier;
- the progression system has been adjusted: all skills now have 3 levels instead of 5, so you can fully upgrade Geralt in a single playthrough, and each skill upgrade has a stronger effect;
- additional testing uncovered and fixed minor but annoying bugs from the original game. All previously released technical updates are also included.
Complete Edition graphics enhancements:
- ray tracing on PC and PS5/XSX consoles, regardless of the graphics chip vendor. On graphics cards without RT cores, ray tracing is software-based and offers only the basic features of the technology;
- game performance has been improved through frame upscaling (FSR 2.0 on AMD graphics cards and PS5/XSX consoles, or DLSS on Nvidia graphics cards);
- texture resolution has been increased for almost all objects, and more full 3D objects have been added in place of earlier imitations;
- character and monster models have been improved with 4K textures, and armor display bugs have been fixed;
- grass has been improved, and almost all vegetation in the game has been reworked;
- clouds have been changed and new weather conditions added;
- about a dozen new animations have been created for Geralt and Roach, such as petting;
- all objects now have reflections on their surfaces when wet (previously, this effect was only seen on water);
- the PC version has a new graphics setting, “Beyond Ultra+,” which affects 8 main options;
- PS4, XOneX, and Switch do not have the features listed above, except for a new quest and items inspired by the Netflix series, bug fixes, and cross-platform saves;
- Complete Edition is the standard version for PS5, XSX, and their ninth-generation console successors. It also replaced the original game in stores, both digitally and on physical media.
Background to the game world
Witcher 3 is the first game in the series with a fully open world. It takes place in the Northern Kingdoms during the Nilfgaardian Empire’s third invasion. The game area in Witcher 3 is 30 times larger than in Witcher 2. Players can travel on horseback, using Geralt’s horse, Roach.
The world is divided into regions with different landscapes and levels of development, and is home to many different peoples. There are 15 full-fledged states and more than 20 principalities and free cities, which will unite to resist or be conquered, depending on the player’s actions. The settlements are designed to resemble medieval Eastern Europe, though some buildings are Scandinavian in style.
The rest of the game world offers mountains and valleys, fields and forests, rivers and lakes, caves and underground chambers to explore. There are also swamps and “cursed places” where monsters usually live. The Witcher 3 bestiary is extremely varied. The player will encounter not only bandits and wild animals, but also vampires, ghosts, ogres, earth elementals, griffins, succubi, and other monsters.
The game world is filled with many events, both random and planned. It is designed to be as realistic as possible, making it interesting to travel through.
Key characters
- Geralt of Rivia is a wandering monster hunter (a witcher). He fights with two swords, is a skilled combatant, and uses magical signs and potions to improve his abilities. He is often at the center of important events.
- Triss is a sorceress, Geralt’s lover, and Yennefer’s friend. She is well known from earlier games in the series. In the third game, her role as a source of support for Geralt during his long travels remains unchanged.
- Yennefer is the sorceress Geralt loves, but their feelings cannot overcome their differences in character. Geralt searched for her for a long time, and she makes her first appearance in the third game.
- Ciri is a young witcher trained by Geralt, though not completely. The Wild Hunt pursues her because of her true origins. She plays a key role in the story.
Story
The Wild Hunt is not just in the game’s title—it is a band of elite ghostly riders from another dimension, a dying world of elves, who are trying to move to the world of humans. Led by the elven king Eredin, who is willing to open a portal at any cost. To do so, he kidnaps people who can lead him to Ciri. The antagonist has no idea that Geralt is his equal in strength and cunning.
At the same time, the Nilfgaardian Empire is swallowing up the Northern Kingdoms one by one. The player can choose a side in the conflict and take part in battles and sieges, helping shape the political order of the game world. Meanwhile, Emperor Emhyr orders Geralt to find and rescue Ciri.
Unlike other role-playing games, The Witcher 3 lets players turn down optional quests. Events will unfold whether or not Geralt takes part in them. Each main quest offers several possible paths, which affect the game’s ending. The writers carefully crafted the story and dialogue, and added many cutscenes.
The side quests set a high standard: most are well developed and very different from the usual open-world “kill” and “fetch” quests. The main story can be completed in about 40 hours, or the expected 50. Exploring the game world and completing side quests will take about the same amount of time.
Single-player
The combat system has been completely redesigned so Geralt can fight larger groups of enemies at once. There are no chains or combos of attacks. Players simply need to strike at the right moment, defend and counterattack, dodge, and take cover. The silver and steel swords work as before, but bombs and a crossbow have been added as alternatives.
The five magical Signs have been improved and can now be used both in combat and in everyday situations. Quests often require players to use Witcher Senses and interact with the game world. Monsters and creatures have strengths and weaknesses, which players need to know to defeat them quickly.
Alchemy is more complex, but potions give Geralt special abilities, improve his attributes, or increase his damage against certain enemies. The maximum character level is 70, but it varies depending on the game’s difficulty. As before, Geralt can improve his talents by choosing a specialization and the corresponding skills.
Complete Edition and mods
Years after its release, Wild Hunt has gained hundreds of fan-made mods, most of which have also made their way into the updated version. What’s more, it includes The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project, HD Monsters Reworked, Immersive Real-time Cutscenes, Nitpicker's Patch, World Map Fixes, and many components of the FCR Mod by default.
CD Projekt has also released a new version of the Modkit—a toolkit for modders—with improvements and additions that will keep the project alive for decades to come.
Key features
- Numerous, well-developed romantic scenes.
- The player's actions lead to one of 36 possible ending states for the world.
- Very high replayability, both in terms of the story and gameplay. You can play through the game three times in completely different ways.
- The Witcher 3 received 16 free content updates and 2 major story expansions — Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
- You can import PC-version Witcher 2 saves so that your choices carry over into the third game. This will affect the state of the world, which secondary characters are available, and the quests.

Reviews and ratings
I began my acquaintance with the world of The Witcher precisely from this part. Didn't play the previous two, didn't read the books. But even here, I was so drawn into this game that I got out of it, not shaved, hungry, not sleeping....in the good sense of the word. The plot is something with something, so tasty that no film can hold a candle to it, the characters are developed at 10+. The dialogues are just hilarious. There is swearing, in moderation and tastefully. Sometimes the twist of the plot makes your brain go askew (again, in a good sense of the word). While you are running to complete the main task, along the way you meet two people who ask for help. You stop and start helping. After an hour and a half of completing quests FOR THESE PEOPLE, you remember about the main task. Becau… Read full
Read full
