Gothic 1 Remake Snaf's Recipe Quest Guide

In Gothic 1 Remake, the Snaf's Recipe quest can be picked up in the Old Camp early in the game. To complete it, you need to bring the cook Snaf the ingredients for his stew: three Bugmeats and five Hellcaps. However, the lack of objective markers makes the task noticeably harder: the game only tells you which two ingredients are needed without showing their locations, and most players will not have a map at this point. In this guide, we will explain how to start Snaf's quest, where to find Meatbugs and Hellcaps, and what reward you can get for completing the task.

To get this quest, first find Snaf in the southern part of the Old Camp. Walk straight past Dexter, and you will soon see the cook standing by a large cauldron. Sometimes Snaf may be inside his nearby hut instead. After the conversation, Snaf will ask you to bring ingredients for his stew: three Bugmeats from Meatbugs and five Hellcaps. The ingredient list sounds questionable, but these are exactly what he needs to prepare the dish.

You can find the three Meatbugs for Snaf's quest not far from the southern gate of the Old Camp. They usually crawl near the spot where one of the NPCs stands during the day. Face Snaf's cauldron and hut, then turn left and follow the path. Watch the ground carefully, and you will soon notice large bugs crawling nearby.

Kill the bugs by stepping on them or hitting them with any weapon. Then search the remains to get the Bugmeat for Snaf. If you already killed the two Meatbugs near the starting mine earlier, collecting the required amount will be even easier.

Hellcaps can be found in open areas, but they most often grow in caves. The most convenient way to collect all five Hellcaps at once is to combine the search with another Old Camp quest. After speaking with Sly, you will learn about Nek's disappearance, which starts The Vanished Warder quest. While looking for Nek, you will find him in a cave beyond the camp's southern gate.

This is where you can find all five Hellcaps needed for the quest: three grow in front of the entrance, and two more are inside the cave. Although these plants can be found elsewhere too, this route is the most efficient: you collect all the required ingredients and make progress in two quests at the same time.

Two more Hellcaps can be found in a small cave with molerats near the bridge by the northern gate. Another three mushrooms grow in a different molerat cave west of the camp, near the guarded path leading toward orc territory.

Once you have collected all the required ingredients, return to Snaf and give them to the cook. As a reward, he will prepare Meatbug Ragout for you and unlock the recipe for the dish. You will also receive 100 experience points for completing the quest, which is a useful reward early in the game.

After the quest is complete, Snaf will give you free food every day, helping you restore lost health.
