Gothic 1 Remake Best Armor Guide

Gothic 1 Remake Best Armor Guide

In Gothic 1 Remake, armor has a direct impact on the hero's survivability: without decent protection, even ordinary enemies quickly become a serious problem. At the start, good equipment is hard to buy or loot, while the best armor sets are usually tied to factions, chapters, and specific quests. In this guide, we will explain where to find the best armor in Gothic 1 Remake, which protection to get early in the game, how Old Camp, New Camp, and Swamp Camp armor differs, and where to get strong armor outside factions.

What Types of Armor Are in Gothic 1 Remake

Gothic 1 Remake Best Armor Guide

First, it is important to understand one key feature of the game. The best armor is directly tied to the hero's position in the faction you choose. This was true in the original game, and it remains true in the remake. Strong protection is a kind of status marker for the hero, and even NPCs will react to it. Because of this, all armor can roughly be divided into faction armor and armor that can simply be found or bought. Unfortunately, merchant prices are outrageously high, so "just buying it" is not exactly the option we are looking for.

Some strong armor sets are located in dangerous places, so before searching for them, it is better to level up the hero, unlock useful skills, and prepare potions in advance. Magical abilities can be obtained during the The Price of Magic quest.

Best Armor Early in the Game

In the early stages, one of the most accessible protection options is Digger's Light Trousers. It has 10 protection against slash damage, 10 against pierce damage, and 5 against fire. In the Old Camp, you can buy it from Fisk for 313 ore. That is a huge amount early in the game, so we are skipping this method right away, but keep in mind that it exists.

The second way to get Digger's Dress is free, but it requires some skill and agility. Head to the Free Mine in the west, just beyond the hills of the New Camp. To the left of the entrance, look for a digger named Swiney. After a short conversation, tell him that you have already mined ore before. Swiney will give you Digger's Dress for free, with the same stats as Fisk's armor. No payment required.

The obvious problem is that you need to reach the New Camp first. On the way, you will run into many enemies, and you simply will not have the gear to kill them properly. The only way through is to heroically run away. On top of that, you need to know the exact route to the New Camp, which your character technically cannot know according to the game's internal logic. You will have to use an interactive map online. By the way, while wearing Swiney's clothes, the Nameless Hero will be allowed into the New Camp bar for free, which is obviously both nice and useful.

Where to Get the Novice's Loincloth in the Swamp Camp

If you plan to develop the hero through magic or want to get protection with a magical leaning faster, you can head to the Swamp Camp for the Novice's Loincloth. Its magic protection is better than mining clothes, but there is a catch: there is only one way to get it, and you will not like it. At the entrance to the sect in the Swamp Camp, talk to the guard on the left. He will sell the loincloth for 500 ore.

How Faction Armor Works in Gothic 1 Remake

Now you will need to decide on a faction. Of course, you can try to get by without one, but there is not much armor available to everyone. Besides, most of it can only be found in specific chapters. Broadly speaking, the factions fall into three categories, although there are some variations within them.

The Old Camp is suited for a melee fighter in heavy armor. The New Camp is better for an agile thief and archer. A mage should choose either the Swamp Camp or the Water Mages in the New Camp. This is how the Nameless Hero's specialization is shaped. Faction armor is issued at the start of the questline, then upgraded or replaced by masters as you climb the ranks. The important thing is that you cannot be a member of every possible path at once. Gothic 1 Remake is an old-school game, so choosing a faction automatically closes off some quests and certain progression options in other specializations.

How to Get Faction Armor in Gothic 1 Remake

Below are the main armor options for the Old Camp, New Camp, Swamp Camp, and Water Mages. Each faction has its own progression path: first, the hero receives basic equipment, then unlocks heavier and more expensive armor.

Old Camp Armor: Shadow and Guard Armor

Gothic 1 Remake Best Armor Guide

In the Old Camp, you will unlock Shadow's Armor. You can also become a guard, which turns the hero into a full tank.

Complete the Admission to the Old Camp quest and talk to Baron Raven. He will immediately give you Shadow's Dress, which has 30 protection against slash damage, 5 against pierce damage, and 15 against fire. The upgraded version, Heavy Shadow's Armor, can be bought a little later from Diego for 1200 ore.

After working for the baron for some time, you will get the opportunity to join the Guard. Immediately after joining, you will receive Light Guard Armor, with 45 protection against slash damage, 5 against pierce damage, and 20 against fire. Medium Guard Armor is available for 1650 ore, while Heavy Guard Armor requires completing the Quentin's Band quest and paying 3000 ore. This armor has 70 protection against slash damage, 10 against pierce damage, and 25 against fire.

New Camp Armor: Bandit and Mercenary Armor

In the New Camp, the hero first receives bandit armor, and later can become a mercenary and unlock heavier protection. Join the New Camp and complete the admission requirements set by Lares. Pay 400 ore and swap the list from the Old Mine. You will immediately receive Light Bandit's Armor, with 30 protection against slash damage, 5 against pierce damage, and 15 against fire. As you can see, its stats are no different from the Old Camp armor at first, but that only applies to the early stages. Bandit's Armor can be bought from Wolf for 1050 ore. Heavy Bandit's Armor is also sold by Wolf, but it costs 1200 ore.

If you start serving General Lee, you will become a mercenary and receive the starting Light Mercenary Armor: 45 slash protection, 5 pierce protection, and 20 fire protection. Medium Mercenary Armor costs 1650 ore, while Heavy Mercenary Armor costs 2600 ore. This is the final equipment for this path, providing 70 slash protection, 10 pierce protection, and 35 fire protection.

Mercenary armor strongly resembles the protection worn by guards, while bandit outfits do not hinder agility and make the Nameless Hero much more mobile.

Water Mage Armor in the New Camp

In the New Camp, you can also become a Water Mage, but this only becomes possible closer to the end of Chapter 3. After joining the guild, Saturas will immediately give you the Water Robe. It has a solid 65 slash protection, 5 pierce protection, 40 fire protection, and 15 magic protection. The High Water Mage's Robe can be obtained for 2600 ore: 70 slash protection, 10 pierce protection, 45 fire protection, and 20 magic protection.

Swamp Camp Armor: Novice and Brotherhood Guard Armor

In the Swamp Camp, the hero can become a follower of the Sleeper or a Brotherhood guard. The available armor and further character progression depend on the path you choose. To become part of the faction, earn the favor of four gurus and talk to Cor Kalom. He is the character who will make the hero a member of the Brotherhood. Immediately after joining, you will receive the basic Light Novice's Armor. It has 30 slash protection and 15 fire protection. Novice's Armor can be bought from Baal Namib for 1200 ore. After receiving a rank from Cor Angar, you can become a Brotherhood guard. Light Guard Armor can be obtained from Gor Na Toth. It has 45 slash protection, 5 pierce protection, and 20 fire protection. Guard Armor costs 1650 ore, while Heavy Guard Armor costs 2100 ore. It has 70 slash protection, 10 pierce protection, and 35 fire protection.

Best Armor Outside Factions in Gothic 1 Remake

Some strong armor sets can be obtained without being tied to a faction, but in most cases, they only become available in specific chapters or after completing difficult tasks.

Where to Find Improved Robber's Armor

The first set is Improved Robber's Armor. It has 32 protection against slash damage, 5 against pierce damage, and 15 against fire. If you are not committed to a camp, complete Baron Raven's Quentin's Band quest: bring the Brotherhood amulet from the Swamp Camp after defeating Baal Netbek. Quentin will reward you with this armor.

Where to Find Guard Armor

In Chapter 3, during the Focus Stone from the Mountain Fort quest, find the Mountain Fort. In the library, press the hard-to-notice lever on the wall to open a secret room. Inside, you will encounter skeletons. After clearing the area, take Guard Armor from the chest. It has 15 protection against slash damage, 1 against pierce damage, and 3 against fire.

Where to Find Minecrawler Plate Armor

In Chapter 4, before the battle for the Free Mine, talk to Gorn and then to Wolf. The hunter will ask you to bring him 15 plates from Minecrawler Warriors and teach you how to harvest them. As a reward, you will receive Minecrawler Plate Armor. It has 80 slash protection, 15 pierce protection, 30 fire protection, and 5 magic protection.

Where to Find Ancient Ore Armor and How to Upgrade It

In Chapter 5, Xardas will ask you to visit his old flooded tower in the center of the lake. You will end up in a cave with a skeleton mage. Defeat him and search the chest. Inside, you will find Ancient Ore Armor. It has massive stats: 95 slash protection, 25 pierce protection, 40 fire protection, and 10 magic protection. But that is not all. The armor can be upgraded. Return to the Old Camp, defeat Gomez, and free the blacksmith Stone from the underground prison. During the day, come to him at the forge. He will upgrade your armor as thanks for saving him. This gives you 100 slash protection, 30 pierce protection, 45 fire protection, and 15 magic protection.

What Is the Best Armor in Gothic 1 Remake

This means the best faction armor is the High Water Mage's Robe, while the best special armor is Improved Ancient Ore Armor. Getting them is not easy and will take time, but once you do, nobody will be able to beat you down with sticks and fists anymore.
