The Total War series of games consists of dozens of strategies that tell stories about protracted world wars in various epochs. They cover the medieval period in Europe, the times of Feudal Japan, the fall of the Roman Empire, and many other time periods.
Moreover, Total War also encompasses the Warhammer universe, so the series includes several fantasy strategies with magic and various unique races like Skavens.
Battles in Total War take place in real time, while movement on the world map is turn-based. Often, players have to rebuild their cities and hire special individuals who help stage coups in enemy armies.
