The easiest, most reliable, and transparent way to optimize Unreal Engine 5 games is by configuring the GameUserSettings.ini file.

This modification works by replacing or editing the GameUserSettings.ini document.

File Location:

  • %localappdata%\G1R\Saved\Config\Windows

Why GameUserSettings.ini is your best choice:

  • This method allows everyone to adjust the optimization for their individual system and provides full control. You get full transparency (you can see every setting in Notepad), flexibility (you can tweak the numbers yourself at any time), and maximum effectiveness. This is where the main FPS eaters are located. This method allows you to disable even those engine features (Lumen, Virtual Shadows) that are hidden in the regular in-game menu.

Who is this mod for:

  • Owners of weak and mid-range PCs: If you experience low FPS or stuttering, this method will provide a massive frame boost (in author's tests, FPS increased by 2 times) and smooth gameplay.
  • Owners of powerful PCs: You do not need this mod. Your hardware can handle it. You might download it only for educational purposes.

Why this method is better than others:

  • Why not Engine.ini? Editing Engine.ini is often useless for baseline FPS. It contains low-level commands that only slightly correct the image. The bulk of your frames are gained directly in GameUserSettings.ini.
  • Why not ready-made .pak mods? Mods in the ~mods folder are a black box. You cannot edit them. If the mod author set parameters that your card cannot handle, you are stuck. This method leaves the choice in your hands.

Installation Instructions:

  1. Replace your original GameUserSettings.ini with the universal file from the archive.
  2. LAUNCH THE GAME ONCE so it can detect your monitor and language.
  3. Configure your sound and controls in the menu, then EXIT THE GAME.
  4. Now you can manually tweak the file for your needs (resolution, texture quality).
  5. Detailed definitions for all lines (both standard and hidden system settings) are located in the INI_Explanation.txt file inside the archive.
  6. After all edits, you must set the Read-only attribute in the file properties.
