This mod significantly increases the framerate, stabilizes frametimes, and fixes aggressive VRAM/memory bottlenecks in the Gothic 1 Remake. It is perfectly tuned for mid-range systems, gaming laptops, and any hardware that struggles with Unreal Engine 5's demanding default settings.
If you want to maximize your FPS and eliminate micro-stutters without making the game look like a pixelated blocky mess, this configuration is exactly what you need.
Main Features and Optimizations:
- Massive FX-Based FPS Boost: Disables resource-heavy volumetric fog and clouds. This single tweak frees up massive amounts of GPU power for maximum performance gains.
- Smart Geometry & LOD Scaling: Optimizes Level of Detail (LOD) transitions. The polygon count of distant geometry is reduced a bit earlier — this is virtually invisible in-game but drastically lowers the polygon strain on your graphics card.
- Balanced Virtual Shadow Maps (VSM): The modern VSM system stays active to prevent high CPU overhead, but the resolution of physical shadows is lowered, and strict background caching is enforced. This keeps shadows crisp near the player while heavily cutting memory usage.
- Aggressive Memory & Streaming Optimization: Optimizes UE5's texture streaming pool and accelerates background Garbage Collection (GC). Unused assets are flushed from memory much faster, preventing performance degradation over long play sessions.
- High-Quality SSR Preserved: Despite the heavy performance optimization, Screen Space Reflections (SSR) remain high quality, ensuring that wet surfaces, puddles, and metallic armor still look stunning.
Performance Impact:
- FPS: Expect a massive and highly stable jump in framerate (up to 30–50% more FPS depending on your baseline graphics settings).
- Smooth Frametimes: Optimized asynchronous shader compilation and parallel pass setups drastically minimize micro-stutters and sudden loading drops.
Optional: "PerformanceBoost (VanillaGraphics)" Version
(Pure Engine Optimization — No Visual Changes)
This optimized version of the Engine.ini focuses strictly on hidden system and backend optimizations. The visual quality of the game is neither reduced nor altered. Instead, it forces Unreal Engine 5 to utilize your hardware much more efficiently. It is the perfect choice if you are happy with your current visuals but want to eliminate typical UE5 performance hitches.
- Eliminates Stutters: Forces asynchronous shader compilation and optimized multithreading, massively reducing shader compilation hitches when entering new areas.
- Prevents Long-Session Lag: Speeds up background Garbage Collection (GC) to flush unneeded resources every 30 seconds. This prevents progressive memory creep and performance decay.
- Smoother Frametimes: Distributes rendering tasks evenly across all CPU cores to eliminate micro-stutters.
- Raw Mouse Input: Completely disables mouse acceleration and smoothing for precise 1:1 camera control.
- CPU Safety Net: Limits maximum audio channels and heavy particle bursts to protect your processor from overloading during intense combat.
Installation Instructions:
- Close the game. Press Win + R, type %LocalAppData% and hit Enter.
- Navigate to: \G1R\Saved\Config\Windows\
- Open Engine.ini with a text editor, overwrite its entire contents with your chosen configuration preset (Main or VanillaGraphics), and save the file.
- Critical Step: Right-click on the newly saved Engine.ini file -> select Properties -> check the Read-only box -> click Apply. If you skip this step, the game will simply overwrite your custom settings upon launch!
