The portable gaming platform from Nintendo, belonging to the 7th generation of gaming systems. The DS features a "clamshell" design with two LCD screens, with the lower screen being touch-sensitive to stylus or finger input, which is utilized in many games for the DS. Since 2005, Nintendo has worked to ensure the best ratings and quality of games for the DS. It exists in four variations (DS, Lite, DSi, XL). Worldwide sales of the DS reached 146.42 million units. The best games for the DS are recognized as Nintendogs and New Super Mario Bros. The successor to the console was the 3DS.
