The Sleeper Temple is one of the largest and most confusing dungeons in Gothic 1 Remake. Inside, you will face skeletons, temple guards, and orc shamans, but the main challenge here is the puzzles. In this guide, we will explain how to solve all Sleeper Temple puzzles in Gothic 1 Remake, complete the statue, wheel, and red liquid puzzles, and collect all gemstones.
Three Statues Puzzle
After entering the Sleeper Temple, move forward until you reach a huge gap. Use the fallen column to cross to the other side. After that, you will enter a large hall with skeletons. Kill the skeleton mages first, since they can summon additional enemies. Then deal with the warriors and search the room.
On the right, you will see three rotating wheels, but their purpose will not be clear right away. First, go into the corridor opposite the wheels, head downstairs, and inspect the area beneath the statue. You will enter a room with two skeletons and three rotating statues.
This puzzle is required to progress deeper into the temple and unlock access to the next mechanism.
Solve it in this order:
- Turn the left statue so it points at the column to its right.
- Turn the right statue so it points at the column opposite it.
- Turn the central statue so it points at the door you came through.
If everything is done correctly, a stone pillar with symbols will rise from the floor. Memorize or write down these symbols: you will need them for the next mechanism puzzle. It is best to save right away so you do not have to return to the statues later.
Three Rotating Wheels Puzzle
After solving the statue puzzle, return to the main part of the hall and look for the area with three rotating wheels. You need to turn them so the same symbols that appeared on the pillar in the statue room appear on the opposite wall.
- Turn the right wheel 5 times to the right.
- Turn the middle wheel 6 times to the right.
- Turn the left wheel 7 times to the right.
If the mechanism works, the grate that was previously guarded by the skeleton mage will open. Continue forward: you will enter a room with three mechanisms, but for now you will only be able to activate one of them.
Gemstone 1 Lightbringer
First, jump into the pit to the right of the mechanisms. There, you will face several temple minecrawlers and temple guards. At the fork, turn left, then right. You will enter a circular room with rotating wheels, statues, and lightning striking crystals. Your goal is to turn the wheels so the pattern on the floor forms a complete picture.
Start by turning the wheel that controls the central part of the pattern twice to the right. It is located above the others. Then go to the three remaining mechanisms, which control the side plates. Two of them need to be turned once to the right, while the last one must be turned twice to the right so that four small lines appear.
If you do everything correctly, a mini-boss will appear: the orc Varrag-Kasorg. After defeating him, you will receive the story item Lightbringer and the Ball Lightning rune.
How to Open the Gate with Two Levers
After defeating Varrag-Kasorg, move forward. Soon, you will reach a large gate. There are levers on both sides of it.
First, clear out the enemies near the gate, otherwise they may interrupt you while you are using the mechanisms. Then pull the lever on one side, go to the other side, and activate the second one. The gate will open after that.
Behind it is a loot room. There will be a temple guard inside, so do not rush straight to the chests. Kill the enemy first, then search the room. In one of the chests, you will find an orc lever for the mechanisms.
Gemstone 2 Worldbreaker
After that, return to the main room with the three mechanisms and shoot the seal above the locked door. Continue down the corridor until you reach the arena with Varrag-Hashor. The edges of the arena will be covered in fire, so stay near the center. After the victory, you will receive 8000 experience points, the Pyrokinesis rune, and the story item Worldbreaker.
Gemstone 3 Timebreaker
After the fight with Varrag-Hashor, return to the mechanism room. Insert the orc lever into the central mechanism. Now you need to jump across the platforms raised by the mechanisms. The third platform does not move. Do not jump from it. Just run forward, otherwise the hero will hit the spikes on the ceiling. Follow the corridor, kill a couple of guards, and shoot the red rune on the door to the right.
Deal with Varrag-Unhilqt. After the victory, the hero will receive 8000 experience points. Make sure to search the enemy's body: you can take the Lightning rune and the Timebreaker stone from him. Then check the nearby room, where you will find a Summon Golem scroll.
After that, return to the corridor and go down the steps ahead. Destroy the enemies and check the passage on the left: there is a cave blocked by webbing. Cut through the webbing to open a shortcut back to the main hall. Then go right until you reach the red barrier.
Red Liquid and Skulls Puzzle
In the far part of the temple, you will find a large hall with mechanisms, channels, and skull-shaped chambers. One of the chamber gates has a red plate on it. Shoot it with a bow or crossbow. The door will open, allowing you to reach the lever.
Pull the lever, and blood will start flowing through the channels. Now you need to turn the mechanisms correctly so the liquid fills the glass skull chambers. Set the two rotating plates so the L-shaped elements direct the blood toward the two skulls on the left and right.
After the vessels are filled, a new mechanism will activate near the third circle. Return to the first two circles and adjust them so the blood flow is directed toward the third panel. Then turn the third circle. The blood will continue onward into the room with the red barrier.
Enter the trap room and immediately look forward and slightly upward: there is a red button there. Shoot it to disable the spikes and pass through safely.
After that, cross the room, turn around, and find another red button above the doorway. Shoot it with a bow or crossbow, and a hidden niche will open on the left. Inside, lower the lever to send the blood from the fountain into the central hall with the red barrier.
Once blood has flowed in from both rooms, return to the barrier and activate the pedestal. After the cutscene, a Fire Demon will appear. Defeat it to remove the barrier and receive 500 experience points.
Gemstone 4 Bane of Evil and the Strange Sword
When the barrier disappears, continue forward. Deal with the guards first, then turn right. In the cave, climb up the path and clear the three rooms on the right along the way. Each of them contains a Demon Lord.
After all three enemies die, their souls will activate the gate at the top, and the hero will be able to cross the bridge into the central part of the hall. Varrag-Ruuushk is waiting there. Defeat him and search the body to take the Bane of Evil stone and the Fire Storm rune.
Also take the sword from the center of the arena. This is the Strange Sword, which you will need to show to Xardas later.
Gemstone 5 Essence Banisher and the Path to the Sleeper
Return to the fork beyond the red barrier and turn your back to the passage you came through. From here, go left, jump down, and move right through the tunnel with the channel. This will lead you to a hall with a furnace. Turn the mechanism counterclockwise. The lava will drain away and open a new passage.
Go around the furnace on the right. Do not circle around it directly. Instead, follow the path along the wall. There, you will see a corridor that was previously filled with lava. Follow it forward. On the left, there will be a door opened by a pressure plate. You can look inside and collect the loot.
Next, you will reach ledges. Climb up them and turn the handle to raise the grate and open a shortcut. From the room with the handle, go up the stairs. Check the rooms on the left and right, then approach the large gate and use the handle to the right of it to open the passage.
Beyond the gate, collect all useful items and head toward the huge red barrier behind which the Sleeper is located. Here, the fight with the fifth orc shaman begins: Grash-Varrag-Arushat. After the victory, you will receive 10,000 experience points. Do not forget to search the body: the shaman carries the Essence Banisher gemstone and the Breath of Death rune.
Once the hero has all five gemstones and the Strange Sword, teleport to the necromancer Xardas. During the conversation, you will learn that the weapon you found is Uriziel. Continue the dialogue: if you have collected all the gemstones, the quest will be completed, and the hero will receive an additional 2000 experience points.
