Borderlands 4 is a new looter-shooter set in the distant future. As before, fast-paced gameplay here is combined with light humor and pleasant comic-style graphics. If you haven't played the previous games in the series and are having trouble, check out our guide. We've gathered useful tips for progressing and described some non-obvious game mechanics.

Find New Weapons and Compare Stats

Throughout the game, you'll encounter hundreds of different guns. Don't be lazy—pick them up, compare their stats with your current weapons, and feel free to swap them out. Ideally, you should assemble an arsenal with various guns to help you come out on top in any encounter. There's no point in keeping unnecessary weapons—it's better to sell them.

It's also worth noting that not all legendary guns have high combat stats. They can easily turn out to be worse than the pistols and shotguns you already have.

Choose Elemental Weapons for Fights with Specific Enemy Types

Many enemies have increased resistance to one elemental type and are vulnerable to another. Choosing the right weapon can make battles significantly easier.

At an early stage of the game, remember these three main parameters:

  • Red bar (health) is vulnerable to fire.
  • Yellow (armor) — to corrosion.
  • Blue (shield) — to electricity.

Upgrade Your Ammo Capacity

There are plenty of bullets in the game, but during tough fights you won't have time to search for ammo for a specific weapon type. So it's best to invest upgrade points into increasing the number of magazines you can carry.

If Enemies Break Your Shield, Retreat and Wait for It to Recharge

Otherwise, enemy bullets will damage your health, which will eventually lead to your character's death. Often, you'll have a chance to take a safe position where you can hold out for a few seconds until your shield bar is fully restored.

Repair Kits Have Special Bonuses That Can Be Useful in Battle

The main purpose of a repair kit is to restore your health bar. However, some of them have bonuses, such as increased defense or extra damage. You can use them even when at full health if needed.

Make Active Use of Artillery

Artillery in Borderlands 4 refers to the most powerful weapons—heavy machine guns, rocket launchers, and energy cannons. Unlike standard guns, they don't require ammo refills, just time to recharge. So it makes sense to use artillery as often as possible.

Maneuver During Battles

You’ll have to fight both powerful bosses and crowds of regular enemies. Withstanding a hail of bullets won’t be easy, but you have several tricks up your sleeve that let you quickly change positions on the battlefield. These include single and double jumps, flying, using a grappling hook, and much more. You’ll be able to dodge bullets, flank enemies, and avoid getting cornered.

Capture Bunkers and Collect Key Fragments

In bunkers, you’ll find valuable resources, and once captured, they can be used as fast travel points. Additionally, you can find key fragments in these shelters. They will grant access to Vaults, where unique rewards await you—rewards that affect your character’s capabilities.

Replay Missions for Experience and Unique Weapons

In Borderlands 4, you have the opportunity to replay specific quests. For example, rematching bosses lets you farm legendary weapons. To do this, use the Big Moxxi Encore Exit terminal.

Explore the Multiplayer Settings

Borderlands 4's online mode can be customized to your preferences. You decide whether friends or random players can join your server, as well as players from specific platforms. You can also set an individual difficulty level for each player.
