007 First Light Beginner Guide: Essential Tips for Stealth, Combat, and Gadgets
007 First Light is a cinematic stealth-action adventure with shooter elements about the rise of a new James Bond. A young RAF soldier has to become an MI6 agent, learn how to infiltrate restricted areas, use gadgets, eavesdrop on NPCs, collect Intel, and survive shootouts. In this beginner's guide, we will cover the basics of 007 First Light: how to progress through missions, find alternate routes, use stealth, fight enemies, and choose useful gadgets.
The developers of 007 First Light combine Uncharted-style adventure action with Hitman-like stealth. You begin the game as a young officer who is on the path to becoming a secret intelligence agent. Because of that, most missions ask you to think creatively, look for alternate routes, and sabotage targets in plain sight. This is not a regular shooter where you can pick up a rifle and mow everyone down. Here, you need to collect Intel, eavesdrop on conversations, use disguises, rely on gadgets, and quickly neutralize accidental witnesses.
How to Complete Missions in 007 First Light and Find Story Routes
In most cases, the game does not lead you by the hand. Bond has a main objective and usually several ways to complete it. Most often, these are missions where you need to infiltrate a restricted area, find a specific person, obtain information, or get past security without raising the alarm. Let us look at Chapter 2, A Night Out, where you need to find Pike.
The main mission objective is to reach the VIP area. In this case, there are several ways to get to the second floor:
- Climb across the beams behind the stage.
- Get a stamp by giving the codename.
- Sneak into the cloakroom and quietly stamp yourself.
- Pretend to be a staff member and go through the service area.
At the start, the game gives very few direct hints. To understand how to progress through a mission, explore locations, eavesdrop on NPC conversations, and pay attention to the environment. For example, after looking at the stage and the second-floor balcony, it is not hard to guess that Bond can reach it using his acrobatic abilities.
At the same time, keep in mind that NPCs react to the player's behavior. They are not just background props with a decorative role: they notice Bond's status, appearance, actions, and dialogue outcomes. For example, if Bond gets into the VIP lounge through an "illegal" method, guards may notice it on the way back. Because of this, it is usually better to use "legal" ways to enter restricted areas whenever possible.

Story locations are designed so that players can find the route on their own without constant prompts. To do this, simply look around carefully, read the environment, and listen to dialogue. Still, you can always use the journal, which describes each part of the operation. If you are having trouble or do not know where to go, we recommend checking our 007 First Light walkthrough, where we describe every episode of every story mission in detail.
How Combat Works in 007 First Light: Melee, Shooting and Gadgets
Bond can fight in melee, shoot, and use special gadgets that distract, stun, or neutralize enemies. However, you can only bring a limited number of devices with you, so it is worth thinking ahead before each mission. If Bond is infiltrating a social event, darts are useful for quietly distracting security. If you are about to assault an enemy base, the shockwave camera is a better choice.
James Bond is not an assault squad soldier. He is a secret intelligence agent. His job is not to leave piles of bodies behind, so most conflicts are better solved quickly and quietly. In melee combat, you have regular attacks, grabs, and counters. Enemies use the same techniques. If a yellow cross appears on an attacker, you can counterattack. If you see a red indicator, the enemy is about to grab Bond, and you need to dodge.
Sometimes the License to Kill status appears on the screen. This means Bond is in hostile territory and can use lethal weapons. These scenes usually take place on bases where enemies are armed and open fire as soon as they spot the hero. In rare cases, you can try to sneak through unnoticed, but most of the time you will have to fight.
007 First Light is not like traditional shooters where medkits, grenades, and ammo packs are lying around every corner. You often have to knock weapons out of enemies' hands, and you may only have a few shots in reserve. Every action needs to be planned several steps ahead. You cannot simply sit in a comfortable position and shoot from cover, because enemies do not stay still. They coordinate attacks, destroy cover, try to surround Bond, and throw grenades at him.
Plan your attacks in advance. Decide which positions you will fire from and move between them. Attack nearby enemies first, because ammo is almost always limited. Try to aim for the head or the hands to knock the weapon out of an enemy's grip. If an enemy gets too close, leave cover and deal with him in melee. Pay special attention to armored fighters: let them get close enough so the first shot knocks off the helmet, then land the second shot to the head.
Beginner Tips for 007 First Light
Once you understand missions, stealth, and the combat system, remember a few simple rules. They will help you raise fewer alarms, find alternate routes faster, and survive shootouts with more confidence.
- Use objects around you in combat, such as bottles. These items are marked with a white dot.
- Sometimes walking through restricted areas ends badly. If Bond fails, he can pretend he got lost and return to the starting position for another attempt.
- You can enter restricted areas through disguises or persuasion.
- Study locations and remember where rooms, service passages, and cover points are. This makes it easier to plan your actions and build escape routes. We recommend using the interactive map.
- Change positions often in combat. If you are under fire, run in a zigzag or along another unpredictable path. Your main goal is to stop enemies from landing easy shots on Bond.
The main beginner tip for 007 First Light is simple: do not rush. The game rewards attention more often than brute force. Listen to conversations, inspect your surroundings, choose gadgets for the task, and avoid open combat unless it is necessary.
