GTA 6 Launch Trailer Breakdown: The Most Interesting Details
Rockstar Games has released GTA 6’s 90-second launch trailer. At this point, it seems almost certain that GTA 6 will arrive on November 19 without another last-minute delay. We break down the trailer and pick out the most interesting details.
The trailer debuted “Flower in a Hurricane” by Justice, featuring Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. In the accompanying post, Rockstar also confirmed that Justice composed the game’s original score.
The Sony Partnership
The trailer opens with the PlayStation logo and a message promoting PS5 as the best way to play GTA 6. Sony and Rockstar have a marketing partnership, though it’s interesting that the console shown is a standard PS5 Slim rather than a Pro.
Jason at Work at Brian's Marina
The opening shows a billboard on the way into the Leonida Keys and Brian Heder’s boatyard, Brian's Marina. Jason polishes a boat, then answers a call from Lucia. This appears to be the moment he learns she’s out of prison.
In a voiceover, Jason explains that his time in the military didn’t end well and that people like him can’t get a loan. This echoes Rockstar’s comments in its LOVE magazine interview about an increasingly unattainable American Dream: these days, even owning a family home and living without debt can feel out of reach.
The Iguana
A green iguana makes an appearance in the trailer — a familiar sight in South Florida. These introduced lizards have become a local nuisance, damaging gardens and burrowing beneath sidewalks and into canal banks.
Missions During Jason’s Military Service?
One particularly intriguing scene shows a group of armed people in the swamps. Since Jason previously served in the military, this could be a flashback or a prologue exploring his past.
Jason and Lucia’s Shower Scenes
The trailer includes several glimpses of romantic scenes in the shower. In one shot, Lucia is wearing an ankle monitor used to track her whereabouts after her release from prison.
Official sources have already established that Jason and Lucia’s romance is up to the player: they can remain strictly partners in crime. It’s still unclear whether everyone will see these scenes or whether they depend on the protagonists’ relationship at that point in the story.
The Ship Infiltration Mission
In one scene, a character in tactical gear boards a ship from a helicopter. Look closely at 0:31, just before that sequence, and you can see him patting a police K-9 on the head.
Later in the trailer, several men make their way through a flooded compartment aboard a ship. These could well be scenes from the same mission, with things having gone badly wrong.
For now, we can only speculate about who Jason is working for here and what he’s been sent to do.
Lucia in a Balaclava?
Two armed women in balaclavas pose for a camera, with markings resembling autofocus brackets visible on the screen. This could be a staged shoot or a video message tied to a mission for one of the gangs or factions. The woman on the left is wearing the same outfit as Lucia at 01:01.
National Office of Security Enforcement
In the scene where Lucia fires a grenade launcher, take a look at the National Office of Security Enforcement (NOOSE) vehicles on the right: the armored vehicles with flashing police lights appear to have mounted machine guns. This shot suggests that law enforcement will be able to deploy vehicles equipped with a range of heavy weapons against the protagonists.
Jason, Raul, and Lucia
The protagonists are interrogating someone alongside Raul Bautista. In interviews, Rockstar staff have described Raul as something of a mentor to the pair in Vice City’s criminal underworld.
The Mission from An Extended Look?
The scene at 1:09, where a suited Jason clings to a helicopter above the city at night, most likely continues the mission shown in Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look.
A Billion-Dollar Game
The action has the scale of a Hollywood blockbuster: Lucia leaps from a car onto a plane’s landing gear, a helicopter smashes a suspended load into a skyscraper’s facade, and another sequence puts Jason on a rooftop as a different helicopter explodes behind him. Shots like these make estimates of GTA 6’s budget exceeding a billion dollars easy to believe.
What do you think of GTA 6’s cinematic action sequences?
***
The fact that Rockstar released GTA 6’s launch trailer this far in advance probably means we won’t see any more official trailers or gameplay showcases before release. More precisely, we may not see any more videos featuring new footage. Shorter ads — for TV, for example — using scenes from this trailer are still a possibility, of course.
