How to Find Information About the Hermit
After completing the first two quests for the blacksmith Radovan, you are finally ready to work on the wedding gift. Radovan wants to forge a sword from Damascus steel, but he lacks the main material — steel. It is said that there is a hermit in Apolena with a very good but broken sword. The fragments need to be taken from him, but there is a complication — supposedly the old man is possessed by the devil. Moreover, Radovan doesn't know exactly where the hermit lives, so you'll have to go to Troskovice again and talk to people.
Go to the tavern and talk to the hostess. You will learn quite a bit about the rumors of the hermit's possession. The hostess will give you a lead on the apothecary's wife and the shepherd. Both of them supposedly saw the devil. She will also hint at where the hermit approximately lives, but don't rush to go there.
Talk to Gerta, the apothecary's wife, who will tell you about a demon near the reconciliation cross. You can also discuss the hermit with other villagers. Talk to them until the optional task of gathering information from the peasants is completed.
Go to the reconciliation cross and dig up the grave. You will find a stash, several letters, a crusader's cloak, and money. Read all the books and letters, otherwise, Henry will not know the information from them.
Now proceed to the shepherd. You can drink with him or teach him a made-up spell during the dialogue check. The shepherd will tell you that the demon on horseback was thinking for a while about where to ride, which doesn't quite resemble a devil coming for a soul.
Next, you will have two points of interest — either go straight to the hermit's house to the left of the road or explore the large forest area on the right. Start with the forest, and roughly in the center of the zone, you will find an old sheepfold, and in the pen, a large and quite lively black horse. Examine everything to mark the point as explored, then proceed to the hermit.
How to Negotiate with the Hermit
Upon reaching the hut, present all the collected evidence to the hermit. If you have studied everything, the man will not deny it and will tell the truth. The real hermit died, and he himself is a crusader hiding from the Inquisition. Knight Conrad agrees to share where the broken sword is if Henry fulfills the last request of the real hermit and his close friend. Thus, you will pause the quest for a while and start the task "Sinful Soul," as Conrad will ask you to give an old woman in the village a wooden cross and convey a phrase word for word.
How to Complete the "Sinful Soul" Quest
When Conrad asks you to visit the widow in Troskovice, agree. Without this condition, you won't learn the location of the sword. Head back to Troskovice, and at the cemetery, you will find the widow you need. Talk to her and learn the secret of the real hermit's brother's death. Following the old woman's lead, dig up the remains behind the cemetery wall nearby and place them in the grave next to where the widow stands. Convince the woman that you are doing a good deed, and you can take money from her for silence. Now return to the hermit.
Help Conrad or the Crusaders?
When you deal with the widow at the cemetery and return to the hermit, you will immediately see several knights approaching the hut. These are other crusaders. Talk to them and offer your help. They will agree and ask Henry to quietly set Conrad's house on fire, as he is actually a traitor and killed the real hermit. Here, you need to make a choice. When you quietly approach the hut, you will see Conrad in armor and with a crossbow. Say you want to talk, not fight.
In reality, Conrad is indeed a good person and not guilty of the hermit's death. This can be learned from his personal diary. The diary will also help you if you failed to negotiate with Conrad, or if he is already dead. The diary is either in the crusader's personal belongings or hidden behind bags in the house. It will turn out that the knights were sent to deal with him due to an internal conflict with the order. Moreover, for defeating the crusaders, you will receive more rewards, so the choice is obvious.
Support Conrad and kill the three knights, collect everything you can from them. Don't forget to also examine the fourth one, who died from a crossbow bolt on the approaches to the hut. Conrad will fulfill his promise and tell you that the sword is at the hermit's grave further up the mountain. You will have to look for a double tree, but eventually, you will see the right place. It is located slightly north of the letter marking this part of the quest. There is no point in digging up the grave, just take the sword fragment.
Now you can return to Radovan. He will offer Henry to forge the sword himself. In the recipes, the item is called the hermit's sword. You already have everything you need. Make the blade, and the blacksmith will agree to take Henry to the wedding.
If you have already been to the wedding, you can still make the sword, but then you will have to take it to the swordsman Kot in the gypsy camp.
