Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: Hammer and Tongs Walkthrough

In the game Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you will encounter many captivating quests that immerse you in the atmosphere of medieval Bohemia. One such quest is related to the blacksmithing craft, where you will need to demonstrate your skills and ingenuity. This guide will help you successfully tackle the challenge and earn a well-deserved reward in the Hammer and Tongs quest.

How to Start the Hammer and Tongs Quest

Visit the tavern of the innkeeper Grosh, located in the village of Grunta in the Kuttenberg region. Ask him to share the latest news. Grosh will gladly tell you about the local blacksmith who recently took on a young but talented apprentice.

Innkeeper Grosh

Head to the blacksmith Zdmir and start a conversation about the skills of his young protégé. Zdmir, proud of his apprentice's achievements, will show you a blade forged by his hands. However, being a blacksmith's son, you will immediately notice the flaws in the work and won't be able to hold back your criticism.

Confident in the skills of his apprentice Matej, the blacksmith will offer you a bet: money and a hunting cleaver forged by the apprentice are at stake. By agreeing to the wager, you activate the quest.

Forge the Cleaver for the Contest

The blacksmith will provide you with all the necessary materials to forge a hunting cleaver, following the blueprint titled "Sword for the Contest."

To create the item Sword for the Contest, you will need:

  • Steel (2).
  • Iron Scrap (1).
  • Fastener (1).

You can immediately start working and forge the sword right in this forge using the provided resources.

The forging consists of three stages:

  1. Heating the blank.
  2. Forging the item.
  3. Tempering.

Tips for forging:

  • Save before starting the forging.
  • Henry will warn you if there is a risk of overheating the item.
  • A flash when striking with the hammer indicates you're hitting correctly.
  • Deliver blows consistently, with small steps, avoiding multiple strikes in one spot.
  • If the item turns pink, return to the forge and heat the blank a little.

Even with a low crafting level, you can win the contest by following the above recommendations.

Bring Zdmir the Hunting Cleaver You Forged

Blacksmith Zdmir will need to see the sword for the contest that you forged. After carefully examining your creation, he will be impressed by your craftsmanship and acknowledge that you rightfully won the bet. After this, Zdmir will recommend you to go for training to the skilled gunsmith Mikulas Krondel in Kutna Hora to continue honing your skills.

Apprentice Matej

When you remind him about the reward, the blacksmith will give you the promised money. However, his apprentice Matej will be reluctant to part with his hunting cleaver. Here, you will need to make a choice:

  • Use intimidation — you will get the cleaver but lose reputation.
  • Fight with the forged blades — after winning, you will get the cleaver and improve your reputation.
  • Back off — you will end up with nothing.
