The authors promise an open world, a nonlinear story, and two combat styles: human by day and vampiric by night.

Vampyr is a grim action-RPG from Don't Nod, the studio behind Life is Strange and Remember Me. We play as a doctor who became a vampire and is now torn between a physician's duty and the thirst for blood in an epidemic-stricken London of the early 20th century. In a retro style, the player fights through hordes of enemies, levels up the count's servant, and combines abilities from run to run. Vampires are far from the only theme of Resident Evil Village, but it was precisely Dimitrescu's vampire castle that became the game's calling card.

Nosferatu: The Wrath of Malachi is a half-forgotten horror-shooter from 2003 that was ahead of its time with procedural generation. The player has just 90 minutes to run through the randomly assembled castle of Count Malachi and save family members before they're turned into vampires. No inventory, no unnecessary conventions — only mounting tension and sudden appearances of creatures from around corners. For a long time the game was forgotten, but now it's available on Steam and GOG.

Cabernet is an atmospheric indie RPG about a young woman named Lisa who becomes a vampire in the decor of 19th-century Eastern Europe. The authors deliberately present the thirst for blood as an addiction: you can hold yourself in check or give in to temptation, and each choice changes your relationships with people and the ending. No action whatsoever — only conversations, exploration, and moral crossroads in the spirit of classic vampire dramas.

Vampire quests and adventures for those who love unhurried gameplay with a story and puzzles. Here the vampire theme is revealed through dialogue, investigations, and the exploration of grim locations, rather than through combat. The perfect choice if you want to soak up the gothic atmosphere without action.

These days classic quests can be called a dying genre. But if you enjoy unhurried gameplay with puzzle-solving, pay attention to A Vampyre Story. It's a cute and funny story about an opera singer who was turned into a vampire. She has to accept her new nature and get used to a world where she's considered a spawn of evil. A separate delight is the pleasant art style in the spirit of Tim Burton's cartoons.

Vampire: The Masquerade — Coteries of New York is a visual novel set in the "Masquerade" universe. A freshly turned vampire ends up in the thick of the confrontation between the ancient Camarilla and the rebellious Sabbat of New York, and gathers a "coterie" around themselves — a small group of allies. There's almost no combat: everything rests on text, the choice of clan, and decisions that determine the hero's fate. A good entry into the lore for those who care about story rather than action.

Dracula: Origin is a classic quest from 2008, where the player takes on the role of Professor Van Helsing, following the trail of Count Dracula from London to Egypt. In the best traditions of the genre — examining locations, collecting items, and dozens of puzzles of varying difficulty. The somewhat grim but beautiful hand-drawn picture and the dense atmosphere of horror make the game a pleasant find for fans of the old school of adventures.

The best vampire role-playing games are considered to be Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines and its sequel Bloodlines 2, as well as Vampyr. Among the fresh ones, it's worth waiting for The Blood of Dawnwalker from the creators of The Witcher 3 — it comes out in September 2026.
